The 2018 Kelowna wedding season began with one massive, unique wedding that required our whole team and some of our favorite wedding vendors to pull off. Our couple wanted a party friendly wedding location suitable for 200 guests! Which is BIG wedding in Kelowna. Their Okanagan wedding vision landed us at Powers Creek Retreat in West Kelowna, BC.
Powers Creek Retreat was a new venue for White Orchid Weddings. It includes 5 cabins, a banquet hall, one gorgeous fire pit, a large 6 bedroom house, a pool and lots of grassy fields to play around with. This Okanagam Wedding location suited our couples desire to accommodate many guests, have complete privacy, party later than usual and gave the wedding party the ability to sleep onsite at the venue.
In order to suit the number of guests attending we had to put our logistical planning skills to work and create a tented reception space, an outdoor ceremony site and a cocktail area. The theme of the wedding was rustic elegance, with minimal florals. Without the pop of color from flowers we had to get really creative to create a palette that was both rich and complementary but not overbearing. All Occasions Party Rentals assisted with the execution of our design dream by bringing in new, beautiful grey linens and gorgeous purple goblets that really tied the decor together. We paired the decor with hints of wood, gold, twine and greenery, and beautiful glass pieces from Crocus Floral Design it truly was a gorgeous look!
White Orchid Weddings was enlisted for our full service package for Janea & James’s wedding. We worked together for a year to put this tented wedding together. Over the course of the year we planned every detail that came along with building a venue – such as hiring shuttles, coordinating a larger than normal rental list, creating facilities, weather back up plans, hiring employees, catering/vendor logistics, power sources, setup/teardown logistics, water sourcing, child minding and much more. We have to say that tented weddings require a lot of additional planning and are taken very seriously as everything has to be in place and accounted for prior to the wedding day.
Speaking of weather back up plans… it rained! Many come to the Okanagan for an outdoor wedding under the sun. The sun however, decided to play games with us and sent bursts of rain the day leading up to the wedding and throughout set up. Last minute we had to make the tough call to move the buffet under the tent to protect it from the moody weather. This required adjusting the set up to accommodate for the change in plans – something that couldn’t of been executed without trusted vendors/staff around to help adjust the entire seating plan. Huge thank you to Kakes By Kathie for assisting us. Despite the sun being a little shy that day, the wedding turned out beautiful – just take a look at these gorgeous photos!
We wanted to give Joy Road an appreciation shout out. Their food was so delicious, beautifully presented, and well labeled. The servers were professionally dressed and they hustled to get the food out as quickly as possible with a longer than normal jaunt from the kitchen to our temporary venue. Thanks for helping execute our vision!
